UP mandates POS for beer sales IMG

Previously, retailers of India-made foreign liquor (IMFL) in UP were already required to scan barcodes on bottles and tetra packs before selling them. Now, beer shops in UP must also record details of each unit sold. This system connects distilleries, breweries, bottling plants, warehouses, bonds, and wholesale warehouses across the districts to upgrade, track and manage the supply chain.
State officials are expected to conduct a drive to check compliance with the new POS system in beer shops in the state. Excise Commissioner of UP Adarsh Singh stated, "The IESCMS project is being implemented gradually, and all stakeholders in the liquor trade must get on board. Beer shop retailers are required to start using the POS system."Additionally, retailers must prominently display the UPI (unified payment interface) to encourage digital payments.

There are 30,000 liquor vends in Uttar Pradesh, with 5,800 operating as beer shops. This new system aims to increase transparency and accountability in the liquor trade in UP.
