India and the UK have appreciated the substantial progress made in the India-UK FTA negotiations and both the countries look forward to its early conclusion to achieve a mutually beneficial FTA.

India and the UK have appreciated the substantial progress made in the India-UK FTA negotiations and both the countries look forward to its early conclusion to achieve a mutually beneficial FTA. This was communicated after a meeting between External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar and his counterpart David Lammy. Lammy paid an official visit to India on 24th July 2024. 

 During the visit, UK's Foreign Secretary called on India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and also met with Ajit Doval, National Security Adviser. On meeting with the UK Foreign Secretary, PM Modi wrote on X, “A pleasure to meet UK FS @DavidLammy. Appreciate the priority accorded by PM @Keir_Starmer to broaden and deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Remain committed to elevating the ties. Welcome the bilateral Technology Security Initiative and the desire to conclude a mutually beneficial FTA.”

 During the bilateral consultations, S. Jaishankar and Lammy reviewed the Roadmap 2030, which was agreed between the Prime Ministers during the India-UK Virtual Summit 2021. The two Ministers expressed satisfaction on the progress achieved so far and agreed to look at the renewal of the Roadmap 2030, aiming at a heightened ambition for bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
