Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) manufacturers in Kerala are calling on the state government of Kerala to expedite the easing of export norms. They believe the state government's facilitation for IMFL export could enhance the state’s revenue and job opportunities.

Of the 47 companies eligible to export IMFL from Kerala, only three are currently doing so, hampered by stringent policies and high export fees.

In January 2024, an expert committee headed by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) submitted a set of recommendations to the state government of Kerala to boost IMFL exports. The committee proposed the removal of various approval fees, relaxation in manufacturing tie-up agreements, and the streamlining of export processes, according to the reports.

It was also announced in the 2024-2025 state budget that steps would be initiated to promote the export of Kerala’s IMFL brands.
