The UP government has been supplying sanitisers to states and UTs of India to support the nationwide fight against the spread of COVID-19. It is a crucial support as sanitiser is one of the proven medical tools to keep COVID-19 at bay.
Since the advent of the spread of COVID-19 in India, the Uttar Pradesh government has been working consistently to ensure the availability of sanitisers across the country. In less than two months, the UP government has established 85 units which are producing sanitisers. However, there was only one such unit when the first lockdown came into effect to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
The Principal Secretary, Excise Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy has informed that so far 61,81,114.04 litres of sanitiser has been produced by UP till 16.05.2020, out of which 26,45,656.29 litres of sanitiser has been supplied within the state and 27,20,606.60 litres of sanitiser has been supplied to other states of the country. Quantity supplied
within the state i.e. 26,45,656.29 litres, includes the quantity of 1,47,182.95 litres supplied to various government organisations and government hospitals through the District Magistrates.
UP has supplied sanitiser to Assam (34,756.2 litres), Bihar (73,467.9 litres), Chandigarh (3,057 litres), Chhattisgarh (4,170.8 litres), Dadar and Nagar Haweli (80,000 litres), Delhi (5,77,450.46 litres), Gujarat (1,04,597 litres), Goa (674 litres) Haryana (6,51,810.2 litres), Himachal Pradesh (80,125 litres), Jammu and Kashmir (5,805 litres), Jharkhand (31,686.7 litres), Karnataka (76,716 litres), Kerala (7,545 litres), Maharashtra (4,14,007 litres), Madhya Pradesh (54,760 litres), Meghalaya (9,899 litres), Nagaland (620 litres), Odisha (20,851 litres), Punjab (63,410.6 litres), Rajasthan (1,19,007.6 litres), Tamil Nadu 58,363 litres), Telangana (33,986 litres), Uttrakhand (1,50,331 litres) and West Bengal (50,778.2 litres) .
UP government’s move has not only increased the availability of sanitiser in the state but has also facilitated in keeping the prices of this highly essential item for health a nd hygiene in check, in UP. So far 27 sugar mills cum distillery units, 12 distilleries and 40 other units in UP have been licensed to produce sanitser. Other than these, seven pharmacies are also producing sanitiser in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
