Arrests for flouting liquor prohibition law in Bihar shows increase

It seems, the Bihar government is very much serious on implementing its liquor prohibition law. In Bihar, more than 1.71 lakh people were arrested in 2022 for flouting the state’s liquor law. Out of these maximum arrests were made from Patna, Saran, Buxar, Muzaffarpur and Nalanda.

As compared to this huge figure, the number of arrests made in Bihar in 2021 for flouting its liquor law was only 82,903. However, despite such a sizeable number of arrests to execute the prohibition law in the recent years, the state experienced a horrible hooch tragedy in the recent past, again indicating the futileness and danger involved in alcohol prohibition.
