Whisky displayed in the apex court!

Recently, when the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud was hearing an appeal in a trademark dispute case involving two liquor manufacturers, a couple of whisky bottles were displayed before him by the Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi to prove the infringements. It was a rare moment before the apex court.

Mukul Rohatgi appeared before the CJI bench in Pernod Ricard's appeal to prevent an Indore-based company, JK Enterprises, from manufacturing beverages under the ‘London Pride’ name. Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh High Court rejected Pernod’s appeal on the matter.

Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi told the CJI that he had to show the similarity between the two products. After permission, Mukul Rohatgi placed the two liquor bottles on his table. Seeing this unusual move, the CJI, who was sharing the bench with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra, laughed out loud and said, "You brought bottles with you?"

On the matter, the bench issued a notice and stayed the order of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and slated the hearing after two weeks.
