Liquor ban in parts of Bengaluru evokes concern

The Bengaluru City District Liquor Traders Association (BCDLTA) has written a letter to election officials, expressing their concerns on the proposed four day liquor ban in certain parts of the Bengaluru city. The ban has been put due to the Legislative Council By-Election to the Bangalore Teachers Constituency, which is scheduled on 16th February.

The ban has been imposed from 5 pm on 14th February i.e. on Valentine's Day to 6 am on 17th February. The liquor ban has been announced in all areas of the city except for those which fall under the Police Commissionerate jurisdiction.

The association emphasised that the proposed ban during the Valentine's Day will cause a loss of Rs 300 crores for the state in terms of excise duty, and businesses will face a loss of Rs 500 crore.
