Canada’s allegations will not impact India-UK trade talks

An UK delegation has arrived in New Delhi to meet Commerce Ministry officials to resolve the issues that have stalled the proposed India-UK Foreign Trade Agreement (FTA) as both sides look to close talks before the general election in India.

The visit of the British delegation comes close on the heels of an Indian team's visit to London late last month, to address disagreements over certain aspects of market access. According to the Commerce Ministry, most of the chapters in the India-UK FTA are either closed or are at advanced stages of negotiations.

FTA negotiations between the India-UK began on January 2022. There are 26 chapters in the agreement, which include goods, services, investments and intellectual property rights. So far, 14 round of talks have been conducted between both sides.
