Toxic liquor deaths in Punjab’s Sangrur

At least 21 people have died in Punjab’s Sangrur district after consuming suspected spurious liquor, according to the reports. After the incident, the Punjab government has constituted a “high-level” Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident.

According to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Sangrur, at least 40 people were admitted to the hospital after consuming spurious liquor that contained ethanol. On 20th March, four people died in Sangrur, allegedly after consuming spurious liquor and some were hospitalised. The next day, four more people succumbed during treatment, at Patiala’s hospital.
