Karnataka’s tourism department is considering a new policy to allow beach shacks and serve liquor along its coastline, inspired by Goa’s tourism model. This move aims to boost both domestic and international tourism. The proposal is expected to be part of the state’s upcoming tourism policy, designed to make Karnataka’s beaches a more vibrant attraction.

In addition, the government plans to upgrade beach infrastructure with an emphasis on safety measures and activities for visitors in the evening. To promote tent tourism, district authorities are identifying government and private lands near beaches as potential camping sites. The new policy will feature a dedicated section on coastal tourism to ensure a holistic approach to beach area development.

To accelerate tourism-related projects, a facilitation centre is being established to streamline approvals, including Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearances.
