Meghalaya is gearing up to launch a QR code-based track-and-trace system for IMFL bottles in the coming months. This initiative, approved earlier this year by the State Cabinet, aims to enhance accountability and streamline operations in the liquor industry.

Excise Minister Kyrmen Shylla expressed confidence in the system, stating, “Everything will be at our fingertips. We will have a dashboard to monitor operations, ensuring accountability and preventing losses.”

Meanwhile, the state is making strides in championing its fruit wine industry. By legalizing fruit wine production, farmers are transforming surplus fruits—previously lost to wastage—into high-quality wines.

Minister Shylla outlined the government’s vision to promote Meghalaya’s fruit wines across India and tap into global markets, empowering farmers and boosting the local economy.
