In a significant development, the Nagaland  government has decided to reassess the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act of 1989, which has been in effect for over 30 years.

The decision to review the prohibition law emerged from a recent cabinet meeting.

Reports indicate that the state government plans to revisit the act during the upcoming state assembly session, set for August 27th, with the possibility of partially easing the prohibition in certain regions of the state.

The spokesperson stressed the importance of tackling the unregulated flow of illicit liquor, whichposes significant health hazards, especially to the youth.

He noted that the lack of regulatory frameworks has allowed bootleggers to freely smuggle substandard and potentially dangerous liquor into the state.
