According to a new research released in the academic publication named Frontiers of Nutrition, few glasses of red wine may lower your risk of contracting Covid. The findings reveal that the risk of getting Covid-19 was 10-17 percent lower among people who intake red wine. However, according to the findings, this protective effect of red wine against Covid-19 will significantly diminish if the person drinks more than 14 glasses of red wine per week.
The research was based on a population of 473,957 people in the UK who are part of a long-term medical study called the UK Biobank.
Some experts believe that this potency of red wine in preventing Covid is due to the polyphenol content, which can inhibit the effect of flu and respiratory tract-related infections.
The research found that people who don't drink alcoholic beverages at all had a higher risk of getting Covid-19 than people who drink.
According to the above-mentioned research, white wine drinkers had 7-8 percent lower risk of getting Covid-19 if they drink fewer than five glasses of white wine per week, but for higher consumption of white wine, this protective effect goes away.
The research deciphers that fortified wine drinkers had a 12 percent lower risk of catching Covid-19, if they drink no more than two glasses of fortified wine per week.
The research unearthed that if one takes upto four glasses of spirits per week it would have no influence on catching Covid-19, however, spirits consumption of more than this is associated with greater risk of getting Covid-19.
