The Excise Department of Delhi has issued new instructions requiring microbreweries in the capital to certify the quality of freshly brewed beer daily before serving it to customers. As per the directive, each batch must be tested and approved by an in-house chemist to ensure it is fit for human consumption.
In addition to daily certification, microbreweries are now required to send monthly beer samples to excise department laboratories for quality analysis. The test reports must be prominently displayed at the premises of the microbrewery.
The order cites compliance with the terms of the L-11 licence, under which microbreweries operate in Delhi. It states, “The beer produced in a microbrewery shall be released for sale only after the said chemist certifies that such beer is fit for human consumption on a daily basis.”
The department also emphasized that microbreweries must submit certificates issued by chemical examiners for each batch of brewed beer.
