HC stays Kejriwal's bail in Delhi liquor gate

In a recent development, Delhi High Court stayed Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s bail till the matter is before it to decide on the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) petition before HC against a lower court order of granting bail to Kejriwal.

On 20th June, a lower court granted bail to Kejriwal regarding the disputed liquor policy. Later,  ED filed an appeal against the trial court's order in the Delhi High Court arguing that their side was not heard at the court.

Kejriwal’s lawyer told a Delhi court that the ED's entire case against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief rested on statements given by those who turned approver in the case.

The ED arrested Kejriwal on 21st March over money laundering allegations regarding framing of the Delhi liquor policy for the 2021-22 fiscal, which was later scrapped after the Lieutenant Governor raised red flags regarding the policy. The ED has alleged the money Kejriwal got from the liquor sellers was used to fund the party's campaign in Goa.
