K’taka considers duty hike on supplies to Army Canteens
The Karnataka Excise Department is planning to increase the tax on liquor supplied to Army Canteens, according to media reports. The move could impact all 70 Army Canteens operating across the state.
Currently, the Excise Department supplies liquor to these canteens at discounted rates. Soldiers are eligible to receive 2 to 4 bottles per month under this subsidized scheme.
This comes amid three rounds of liquor price hikes already implemented in the state. The government is now reportedly reviewing the feasibility of raising taxes on discounted liquor supplied to both serving and retired defence personnel.
