Liquor prices in Uttarakhand are expected to increase from December 15 following a major amendment to the state’s Excise Policy 2025–26. The government has reinstated a 12 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) on excise duty, a move that will directly impact retail prices across categories.
According to officials, the Excise Commissioner has outlined a clear timeline to implement the revised rates after receiving the government order. Industry stakeholders had sought a week to transition to the new structure, and the department has granted this extension until December 15 to ensure transparent and smooth execution.
Once implemented, prices of country-made liquor will rise by ₹10 per pouch and ₹40 per bottle. Meanwhile, bottles of foreign liquor are expected to become costlier by up to ₹100.
