Odisha to boost millet-based liquor

The Odisha government has decided to promote millet-based liquor production by offering financial incentives and subsidies to manufacturers. This decision is part of various measures planned in the state excise policy 2025-26.

Following a high-level meeting, state Excise Commissioner Narasingha Bhol announced that the state government is planning to incorporate incentives and subsidies for those who intend to produce liquor from millets. Another official confirmed that financial support will be extended, with the Excise Department coordinating with the Industries Department on this initiative.

Additionally, the state is developing strategies to craft premium and flavoured mahua-based spirits and steps are being taken to establish production facilities for high-quality foreign liquor within the state, said reports.
