SC lifts HC stay on Chandigarh liquor vends
The Supreme Court on Tuesday vacated the stay on the Punjab and Haryana High Court order that ruled that liquor vends with licences granted cannot operate beyond March 31, 2025. A detailed order is yet to be released in the matter.
A division bench comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and Manmohan disposed of a special leave petition (SLP) filed by the Chandigarh Administration challenging the HC’s order and granted two weeks for all parties to complete pleadings, directing the HC to take up the case for final disposal immediately after.
The SC also clarified that if the HC bench is unable to resolve the issue on the scheduled date, it may issue interim orders after hearing both parties and providing reasons.
