Odisha based Boudh Distillery, a 125-year-old distilling and manufacturing house, is set to enter the premium spirits space with the launch of Mayo Lions Reserve Blended Whisky in early 2026. Long recognised within trade and operational circles rather than by end consumers, Boudh Distillery has quietly played a significant role in shaping Eastern India’s spirits ecosystem through decades of distillation, bottling and distribution across categories.

Mayo Lions Reserve represents a strategic shift for the company. After years as a backend powerhouse, Boudh is stepping into the spotlight with a brand-led, super-premium proposition that reflects both its technical depth and evolving ambitions. Mayo Lions can be seen as a contemporary expression from a very old house, where experience replaces excess and restraint takes precedence over rhetoric.

The whisky blends Indian malt with select Scotch whiskies, crafted to suit Indian palates while drawing on global whisky traditions. Tasting notes point to a warm, honeyed entry, layered oak influence through the mid-palate and a composed, structured finish that avoids excess weight.

Boudh Distillery’s more than century old legacy underpins the brand’s credibility. Its manufacturing expertise, established quality controls and distribution capabilities provide it a strong foundation as the company makes its premium whisky debut.

The initial rollout will focus on Eastern India, covering West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Tripura. Priced between Rs 1,490 and Rs 1,590 for a 750 ml bottle, Mayo Lions occupies a confident position in the super-premium Indian whisky segment, aiming to sit alongside malts while remaining accessible within the premium blend category.

The launch strategy prioritises on-trade visibility across bars, fine-dining venues, lounges and social clubs, supported by select off-trade outlets. Expansion beyond the East is planned, but with a measured, market-building approach anchored in consistency rather than rapid scale.
