China agrees to half tariffs on UK whisky
China has decided to reduce import tariffs on whisky from 10 percent to 5 percent following trade discussions between the UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to a statement from the British premier’s spokesperson.
Starmer’s official visit to China has yielded a series of concrete outcomes as the two countries have agreed to develop a long-term consistent comprehensive strategic partnership.
The tariff reduction is expected to generate £250 million in value over the next five years for the UK whisky exporters.
