In a move aimed at easing travel norms and boosting passenger convenience, the Union Budget 2026–27 has announced a substantial increase in duty-free baggage allowances for international arrivals into India.

Under the revised customs baggage rules, Indian residents and tourists of Indian origin arriving by air or sea will now be permitted to bring in duty-free goods worth up to ₹75,000, up from the earlier limit of ₹50,000, reflecting a 50 percent increase.

Foreign tourists visiting India will also benefit from the revised framework, with their duty-free allowance raised by 66.6 percent to ₹25,000 from the previous ₹15,000.
