Noida excise department warns bars & restaurants against BYOB
The Gautam Budh Nagar excise department has issued a clear warning to bars and restaurants in the city, asking them to stop advertising or allowing “bring your own booze” (BYOB), stating that the concept has no legal recognition in the district, according to a media report.
The directive was issued by district excise officer during a meeting with holders of FL-11 (occasional bar) licences, after officials noticed a growing number of eateries and outlets promoting BYOB to draw customers.
According to excise officials, several establishments have been using BYOB signage as a marketing strategy, even though the Uttar Pradesh Excise Policy 2025–26 does not provide for such a model anywhere in Gautam Budh Nagar.
The officer clarified that any bar or restaurant found permitting or advertising BYOB would be treated as violating excise regulations. While the revised policy allows commercial operations under the occasional bar licence, it does not legitimise BYOB practices, the report added.
