Rajasthan rolls out QR-based verification to curb illicit liquor

The Excise Department in Rajasthan has introduced a technology-driven system to combat the production and smuggling of illicit liquor and reduce health risks linked to spurious alcohol. Under the initiative, consumers can verify the authenticity and quality of liquor by scanning a QR code printed on the hologram sticker affixed to liquor bottles.

The facility has been launched through the Citizen App developed by the Excise Department. Using the app, consumers can instantly check whether a liquor bottle is genuine or counterfeit by scanning the QR code or manually entering the code number. The move is expected to help curb the illegal liquor trade and lower incidents caused by poisonous alcohol.

Once scanned, the app displays detailed information about the product, including the liquor name, brand, maximum retail price, packing size, batch number, manufacturing date and the name of the manufacturing company.
