Rutland Square Spirits Announces Strategic India Entry Rooted in ‘Ghar Wapsi’ and Long-Term Vision

In a move that underscores both strategic intent and emotional conviction, Scotland-based Rutland Square Spirits Ltd has announced its formal entry into the Indian market through a strategic partnership with Anant Wines, marking a significant milestone in the company’s global growth journey.

Founded by Indian-born entrepreneur Nishant Sharma, the move is not a routine market expansion but one that brings together both scale and soul. The India entry represents a long-term strategic commitment to one of the world’s most important premium spirits markets. For Nishant, the decision carries a deeper emotional resonance — a Ghar Wapsi that reflects a desire to reconnect and build in India with intent and purpose.

“India is one of the most strategically important premium spirits markets in the world today,” says Nishant. “As global consumption patterns evolve, India continues to demonstrate strong premiumisation, rising aspiration and a long-term demographic advantage. Our expansion into India is not opportunistic — it is a core pillar of Rutland Square Spirits’ global growth strategy. We are building for the long term, with a focus on brand equity, disciplined state-by-state expansion and strong route-to-market partnerships. India will play a central role in shaping our international trajectory over the next decade.”

Rutland Square Spirits will debut in India with its premium gin and rum portfolio, distinguished by the use of rare Oolong white tea sourced from Assam — a sourcing choice that reinforces the brand’s premium positioning while creating a meaningful cultural connection with Indian consumers.

The first phase of rollout will begin in April 2026, covering Maharashtra, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh, with national distribution led by Anant Wines and supported by select regional partners. Progressive Spirits will support regional market development and on-ground execution in select eastern and North-Eastern states, aligning with the brand’s heritage and premium consumer base.

The India entry also coincides with a favourable UK–India trade environment, providing a strong tailwind to the brand’s ambitions. As Rutland Square Spirits continues to build its international footprint, India is set to play a defining role in shaping the company’s global trajectory over the next decade.
