Cricketer Adam Gilchrist launches El Arquero Tequila

From cricket legend to spirits entrepreneur, Adam Gilchrist has unveiled his new premium tequila brand, El Arquero, marking his entry into the world of fine spirits.

Driven by a long-standing passion for tequila, Gilchrist spent years exploring Mexico’s agave-growing regions to understand the craft and build authentic relationships with traditional distillers. As reported by Esquire Australia, he collaborated with a third-generation distilling family in Jalisco to create a tequila made with integrity , free from additives and shortcuts.

Gilchrist noted that his vision was to produce a spirit that reflects purity and craftsmanship, describing it as “traditionally distilled and clean as it gets — no additives, no shortcuts.”

The name El Arquero, derived from the Spanish word for “the archer” and also suggestive of a “goalkeeper,” acknowledge to Gilchrist’s celebrated cricketing career. He describes it as “a subtle play on my past, referencing where my former life ends and my new life begins,” symbolising the transition from wicketkeeping gloves to a bottle of refined agave spirit.
