El Tesoro The House of Suntory unveil limited edition
El Tesoro de Don Felipe, the acclaimed third-generation tequila brand, has unveiled El Tesoro Mundial: Yamazaki Edition created in collaboration with The House of Suntory, marking the first-ever partnership between the two iconic spirits houses.
Crafted under the guidance of Master Distiller Jenny Camarena, El Tesoro continues to push boundaries through its Mundial Collection, a series that showcases tequila aged in unique casks from renowned global spirit producers. The premium limited-edition brings together three masters of their craft; Carlos and Jenny Camarena of El Tesoro and Shinji Fukuyo, fifth-generation Chief Blender at The House of Suntory. Together, they created a tequila that reflects the hallmark flavours of Yamazaki, Suntory’s legendary single malt, while preserving the rich agave essence for which El Tesoro is celebrated.
Matured for 12 months in authentic Yamazaki 12 Year Old Japanese sherry and wine casks, Yamazaki’s distinctive ageing process infuses the tequila with notes of red berries, warm spices, toasted almonds and honey, balanced by undertones of dark chocolate, coffee and seasoned oak. The result is a complex, full-bodied spirit that showcases the artistry of both distilling traditions.
Jenny described the collaboration as a “labor of love” and a true meeting of cultures. “Our Mundial Collection is one of the most exciting projects at La Alteña,” she said. “Each release demonstrates how tequila can evolve to express new ideas and unexpected flavours. The Yamazaki Edition is a tribute to the craftsmanship and friendship shared between Mexico and Japan.”
Priced at USD 199.99 and bottled at 42 percent ABV, the Yamazaki Edition is a special one-time release, making it a coveted addition for collectors and connoisseurs. The añejo tequila appears gold and clear with a captivating sparkle, offering aromas of aromatic agave, oak, honey, dried fruits, florals and fresh tobacco. On the palate, it delivers mineral tones, toasted nuts, raw honey and warm spices with sherry and coffee notes, culminating in a long, lingering finish accented by red berries, clove and pepper.
The Mundial Collection has previously featured other acclaimed collaborations, including the Laphroaig Edition (2021) aged in Scotch whisky casks; the Knob Creek Rye Edition (2023), highlighting American rye spice and the Basil Hayden Toast Edition (2024) known for its toasted caramel character. Each reinforces El Tesoro’s commitment to craftsmanship and innovation in tequila-making.
