Korean single malt whisky distillery Ki One has launched a limited-edition red pepper cask matured single malt, claiming it to be the first expression globally to use red pepper–seasoned casks.

The red pepper casks were created by infusing barrels with red pepper and hot water over a period of nearly two months, after which the contents were removed and whisky was matured in the seasoned casks. The process allows the cask itself to impart distinctive characteristics to the spirit.

Bottled at 57.5 proof, Ki One Red Pepper Cask Whisky is described as offering layered aromas and flavours, with notes of red pepper, vanilla and ripe fruit, followed by a pronounced spicy finish. The distillery has announced a limited production run of 1,500 bottles, with 200 bottles allocated for the US market.

The expression is priced at approximately USD 134, positioning it in the premium segment.
