Thailand debuts its first ever single malt

Thailand has entered the global whisky scene with the international launch of Prakaan, the country’s first premium single malt whisky, developed by International Beverage. Following its initial success in domestic and Asian markets, Prakaan is now being rolled out globally, with a 2025 focus on the UK, France, and Germany, and further expansion planned into the USA and beyond.

Prakaan Select Cask, Double Cask, and Peated MaltCrafted at the Prakaan Distillery in Kamphaeng Phet, a province within Thailand’s UNESCO-listed Western Forest Complex, the whisky celebrates Thai craftsmanship and terroir. The debut range, named The Tribura Series, includes three expressions: Select Cask, Double Cask, and Peated Malt. Each variant showcases tropical fruit notes and a distinctive Thai character, matured in American ex-bourbon and Spanish ex-sherry casks.

The distillery features underground warehouses to manage ageing in Thailand’s humid climate, and the whisky is crafted using local spring water. With pricing between £65–£74, Prakaan aims to place Thai whisky firmly on the global spirits map through premium offerings and a robust marketing push.
