The Macallan unveils Folio 8 in GTR
Edrington-owned The Macallan has launched the latest edition of its Archival Series, Folio 8, available exclusively in global travel retail (GTR). This release celebrates the Speyside distillery’s rich legacy of creative advertising from the 1980s and 1990s.
Folio 8 revives “The Colossus of Nose”, one of the brand’s most memorable billboard campaigns, which humorously highlighted the exceptional aroma of The Macallan whisky. Alongside the bottle, collectors receive a commemorative booklet filled with stories, illustrations, vintage photographs, and a nod to the era’s quirky ad style, all housed in a signature book-shaped presentation box. Digital content further enhances the storytelling experience.
The whisky itself is a vintage natural terracotta hue, inspired by the traditional roof tiles of Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, where The Macallan’s oak cask journey begins. The nose delivers golden sultanas, ripe dates, sweet berry compote, toffee brittle, lemon peel, cinnamon, and anise. The palate follows with layers of raisins, ginger, citrus zest, toffee, and sweet oak, ending in a long, warming finish with oak spice.
Bottled at 43 percent ABV, Folio 8 is priced at USD 400 and is now available at The Macallan’s airport boutiques and shop-in-shops worldwide. First introduced in 2015, The Archival Series pays tribute to The Macallan’s evolution from a modest Speyside farmstead to a globally celebrated single malt icon.
