Amrut rises in world's best whisky ranking
Amrut Distilleries has achieved a major milestone for Indian spirits, rising to 27th place in Drinks International’s prestigious “World’s Most Admired Whiskies” list for 2025. This marks a significant leap from its previous rankings of 43rd in 2023 and 40th in 2024, reflecting the brand’s growing global recognition and excellence in single malt whisky production.
The publication mentioned that under the visionary leadership of Chairman Neelakanta Rao Jagdale, the company made history in 2004 by releasing India’s first single malt whisky in the UK.
Amrut’s rise on the global stage comes amid a dramatic increase in production—from 350,000 litres in 2019 to one million litres in 2024, fuelled by a growing domestic market. The brand continues to dominate international awards circuits, including a standout performance at the 2024 International Spirits Challenge, where it earned five gold medals.
This year also marked Amrut’s 75th anniversary, celebrated with the launch of India’s oldest single malt, a 15-year-old Amrut Expedition, further cementing its legacy in the whisky world.
Amrut’s continued ascent in the rankings of Drinks International underscores not only the quality of its spirits but also the rising stature of Indian single malts on the world stage.
