Asha’s celebrity restaurant honoured by India

Asha’s Restaurant & Cocktail Bar on Newhall Street, Birmingham, UK, has been honoured by the Indian government for its exceptional efforts in promoting authentic Indian cuisine abroad.

Asha awarded the Annapurna CertificateThe popular venue, frequented by visiting celebrities, was reportedly one of only five restaurants worldwide, and the sole recipient in the UK, to be awarded the Annapurna Certificate. The recognition, presented by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), celebrates outstanding contributions to introducing Indian gastronomy to international communities and enhancing cultural exchange.

The ICCR reviewed nominations from 39 countries, making Asha’s win a rare and significant achievement. This accolade comes on the heels of the restaurant being ranked seventh in the British Indian Good Food Guide’s Indian restaurants in the UK last autumn, the only Birmingham eatery to make it to the Top 20.

Established in 2006, Asha’s underwent refurbishment worth £500,000 last year, elevating its dining experience further. The restaurant has also won praise from celebrated chefs like Heston Blumenthal, Glynn Purnell, Paul Rankin, and James Martin.

Named after legendary singer Asha Bhosle, who has inspired a chain of restaurants globally, Asha’s Birmingham continues to set benchmarks for Indian dining in the UK and beyond, with more international locations planned.
