Barry Callebaut opens 3rd chocolate factory in India
Barry Callebaut, the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products, has officially inaugurated its third chocolate manufacturing facility in India, marking a major step in its expansion strategy across the Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa (AMEA) region.
Located in the Ghiloth industrial area of Neemrana in Rajasthan, the new 20,000-square-metre greenfield plant is equipped with cutting-edge production lines for chocolate and compound in multiple formats, along with integrated warehousing.
The factory underlines the Group’s growing commitment to India, following an investment of over ₹500 crore in the country over the past five years. "With our newest facility, we’re reinforcing our leadership and strengthening our partnerships with India’s food industry and customers across the wider AMEA region," said Vamsi Mohan Thati, President of AMEA at Barry Callebaut.
India is among the fastest-growing chocolate markets in the world, driven by its youth, rising disposable incomes, and a growing appetite for premium and innovative chocolate products. With per capita consumption still below 200 grams annually, industry analysts see strong potential for mid-high growth.
Dhruva Jyoti Sanyal, Managing Director of Barry Callebaut India, highlighted the strategic importance of Neemrana. “This factory enables us to meet growing demand locally, foster innovation, and deepen our partnerships with local food manufacturers and artisans. Just as importantly, its location allows us to get significantly closer to our customers, particularly those based in the north-central part, improving speed to market and customer intimacy,” he noted.
Barry Callebaut has operated in India for over 18 years, with two existing facilities in Baramati and a Chocolate Academy in Mumbai that provides training and supports innovation for chefs, artisans, and food professionals across the country.
The company also recently opened a Global Business Services Hub in Hyderabad to support its global operations. With over 400 employees in India, Barry Callebaut is steadily building its presence through a growing network of manufacturing, innovation, and support services.
