Buffalo Trace Distillery shuts doors amid severe flooding (Image source: Local–12)
Historic bourbon maker Buffalo Trace Distillery has temporarily closed operations after severe floods swept through parts of Kentucky, including its Frankfort-based facility. The company announced on April 6 that it will remain shut at least through April 10, although the timeline may shift depending on conditions.
“Due to the unprecedented and ongoing rain and flooding, we are not able to advise on the impact to our total distillery footprint,” the distillery said in a statement. “We will assess those realities in the coming days as the facilities become safe to navigate and will make necessary adjustments to operations as required.”
Torrential rains over several days have led to widespread flooding across Kentucky and other parts of the US, including South and Midwest. Frankfort, where the Kentucky River snakes through the city, is among the hardest hit.
Buffalo Trace, an iconic, family-owned distillery operating for over two centuries, is renowned for its high-demand bourbon portfolio.
