The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has ordered an investigation into Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC) over allegations of anti-competitive practices.

The order, issued on March 25 under Section 26(1) of the Competition Act, 2002, follows a complaint accusing TASMAC of favouring select breweries and restricting consumer choice. The CCI stated that TASMAC appears to be abusing its dominant position by limiting market access to certain beer brands, violating Section 4(2)(c) of the Act.

The complainant alleged that TASMAC disproportionately stocks specific brands while sidelining others. TASMAC, which operates over 5,000 liquor outlets in Tamil Nadu, will now be investigated by the Director General of the commission.
