The Chandigarh Excise Department resumed e-auctioning of liquor vends on Friday, with bids scheduled to be opened on June 2. This is part of the ongoing auction process under the Chandigarh Excise Policy 2025–26, which has witnessed a mixed response so far.
Of the 12 liquor vends put up for auction on Thursday, only two were sold. On May 19, just one vend was auctioned successfully, while the May 9 auction saw 11 vends being sold. Earlier, on April 29, at least 7 out of the 28 vends found buyers. In the auction held on April 21, the administration sold 20 vends, while 28 received no bids.
All 48 vends had previously been auctioned and allotted, but due to non-payment by the successful bidders, the allotments were cancelled. The administration then decided to re-auction these vends.
Meanwhile, in a separate auction held on March 21, the administration successfully auctioned 96 out of the 97 liquor vends under the new excise policy.
