China announced on Friday that it will impose anti-dumping duties and price undertakings on brandy imports from the European Union for five years, starting July 6. The decision follows the conclusion of an anti-dumping investigation by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, which determined that EU exporters were dumping brandy into the Chinese market, causing a “threat of substantial damage” to the domestic industry.

The dumping margins range between 27.7 percent and 34.9 percent, the ministry said in its final ruling.

This trade action comes just two days after China and the EU held a high-level strategic dialogue in Brussels, co-chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and EU foreign affairs Chief Kaja Kallas. The talks are part of a broader effort to manage economic and geopolitical differences ahead of the upcoming China-EU Leaders’ Summit scheduled for July 24.
