The Delhi Excise Department has urged the Delhi Police to cancel the eating house licences of restaurants found selling liquor without permission.

In a letter to the Joint Commissioner of Police (Licensing), the department emphasized the need for strict action, stating, “It is to inform you that recently the department conducted a surprise inspection and found that some of the restaurants are selling liquor without a valid excise licence. Sale of liquor without a valid excise licence is an offence under the Delhi Excise Act 2009 .

A senior official highlighted that despite frequent raids and FIRs, many offenders secure bail and restart operations, often repeating the same violations. To curb this pattern, the department has asked the police and other licensing authorities to deny future permissions to such repeat violators.
