Delhi extends existing excise policy for 9 months
The Delhi government has formally extended the tenure of its existing excise policy for the financial year 2025-26, continuing with the regime that has been in place since 2022-23. The extension, effective from July 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026, comes as the government works toward finalising a new liquor policy aimed at ensuring transparency, quality supply, and enhanced revenue.
In an official order issued by the Excise Department recently, the government confirmed the continuation of the current duty based regime. According to the latest notice, all wholesale and retail licences will be renewed under the same terms and conditions as the licencing year of 2022-23. There will be no changes to the price structure, brand labels, source, or warehouse allocations. Registered liquor brands active as of June 30, can remain valid for the new year upon payment of requisite fees and submission of the required undertaking.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed officials to draft a new excise policy by June 30. A high-level committee led by the Chief Secretary is studying excise frameworks from other states to inform Delhi’s upcoming policy.
