Diageo India joins IMWA
Diageo India has officially joined the Indian Malt Whisky Association (IMWA), the country’s dedicated alliance of malt whisky producers. The move is expected to bolster the growth and global visibility of Indian single malts, a category that has rapidly gained international acclaim over the past year.
Diageo India, which owns the award-winning home-grown single malt brand Godawan, has earned global praise for its premium quality and distinctive profile.
Announcing the development on LinkedIn, IMWA wrote, “Welcoming DIAGEO India, our new member at the Indian Malt Whisky Association!”
The association highlighted Godawan as an artisanal Indian single malt crafted from locally sourced six-row barley, slow-trickle distilled and matured under extreme climatic conditions, a process that imparts a rich, complex flavour rooted in Rajasthan’s heritage and craftsmanship.
Established in 2024, IMWA serves as the sole representative body for the Indian malt whisky industry, including single malt and pure/vatted malt producers. Its members comprise leading companies shaping India’s fast-growing malt whisky segment.
