Diageo India signs MoU with THSC to train youth
Diageo India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) to train 300 students under its flagship ‘Learning for Life’ programme. The initiative reinforces Diageo India’s commitment to creating a diverse and future-ready workforce as part of its broader Spirit of Progress ESG action plan.
The MoU was formalised in the presence of Praveen Someshwar, Managing Director & CEO of Diageo India; Rajan Bahadur, CEO of THSC; Navdeep Singh Mehram, Vice President - CSR & Sustainability, Diageo India; and Vaibhav Verma, Vice President - Industry Engagement, THSC.
The training will be conducted at THSC-affiliated centres in Bengaluru by certified trainers. Designed as a short-term skilling initiative for unemployed and underprivileged youth, the programme is aligned with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) and includes modules on technical training, communication, digital literacy and soft skills.
Speaking on the occasion, Praveen said, “The hospitality sector is a vital engine of growth and opportunity. Through ‘Learning for Life’ and with the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council, we are empowering young talent with the skills and confidence to thrive, building not just careers but a more inclusive India.”
Upon completion, students will be assessed and certified by THSC, giving them industry-recognised credentials. With a network of over 750 industry partners, THSC will also support placements and apprenticeships, enabling candidates to find meaningful employment across hotels, restaurants, quick-service chains and allied services.
Rajan stated, “We are proud to partner with Diageo India on the ‘Learning for Life’ initiative, which aligns closely with our mission to skill and empower youth for meaningful careers. The hospitality sector continues to be one of the largest job creators, and this programme will provide participants with practical skills, exposure to industry standards, and a pathway to sustainable employment.”
First launched in 2020, Diageo India’s ‘Learning for Life’ programme has already positively impacted over 6,500 students across India. The programme aims to enhance employability, improve livelihoods, and boost workforce inclusion by providing access to certified training in hospitality-related fields.
This new partnership with THSC is expected to significantly advance that mission by connecting India’s underserved youth with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in one of the country’s fastest-growing service sectors.
