Diageo mulls selling stake in RCB
Diageo is evaluating options regarding its ownership stake in the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), according to media reports citing sources familiar with the matter.
The company is said to be in early discussions with potential advisers as it weighs possible strategies, which could include a partial or full stake sale in the franchise. While no final decision has been made, the move comes shortly after a stampede-like incident outside an RCB fan event in Bengaluru earlier this month, which drew public and media scrutiny.
RCB, one of the most popular and commercially successful teams in the IPL, has long been associated with a loyal fan base and high-profile players. Diageo, which owns a majority stake in United Spirits Ltd., acquired control of RCB as part of its broader India investment.
At present, Diageo has not made an official statement on the matter.
