Glen Moray introduces Maple Syrup Cask Finish bottlings
Glen Moray has introduced two new maple-syrup-cask-finished bottlings, launched to mark the opening day of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival. As maple syrup casks are not officially sanctioned for Scotch whisky maturation by the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA), the releases are classified as ‘spirit drinks’.
The release includes both peated and unpeated expressions, each initially matured in American oak casks before being finished in casks that previously held Canadian maple syrup. This is not the first time Glen Moray has challenged SWA norms—its 2018 cider cask-finished whisky faced similar classification issues and was eventually discontinued.
Festival attendees will have the opportunity to sample the new expressions, which are now available exclusively at the Glen Moray Distillery from April 30. The Peated Maple Cask bottled at 59.1percent ABV and Unpeated Maple Cask at 59 percent ABV are both priced at £90.
