GMR Aero, Asia’s largest airport developer, began operating Delhi Duty Free (DDF) at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), New Delhi, on July 28, 2025, cementing its position as the largest duty-free operator in India and South Asia. The win follows a competitive bidding process in April 2024 to design, develop, finance, set up, operate, and manage IGIA’s duty-free outlets.

DDF, the country’s biggest airport-based duty-free retail operation, joins GMR Aero’s portfolio alongside duty-free businesses at Hyderabad, Goa, and Kannur airports, significantly expanding its national footprint.

“This strengthens our leadership in airport retail and reflects our vision to transform the passenger experience,” said GBS Raju, Business Chairman – Airports, GMR Group.

Rajesh Arora, President and CEO – Commercial & Growth, called the integration “a defining moment” that combines talent, vision, and capabilities.

Ashish Chopra, CEO – Group Duty Free Business, added that the move signals a shift “from traditional retail to dynamic travel commerce” powered by digital transformation.

The acquisition supports GMR’s strategy to enhance non-aeronautical revenues, deliver world-class retail experiences, and scale up partnerships with global luxury and lifestyle brands.
