GMR Aero emerges as largest duty-free operator in South Asia
GMR Aero, the airport arm of GMR Group, has officially taken charge of Delhi Duty Free (DDF) outlets at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) recently, following a competitive bidding process earlier this year. With this transition, GMR Aero has become the largest duty-free operator in India and South Asia, significantly expanding its retail footprint.
“We are delighted to welcome Delhi Duty Free into the GMR Aero family. This strengthens our leadership in airport retail and reflects our vision to transform the passenger experience. From luxury offerings to innovative technology, we are committed to reshaping the duty-free business in India,” said GBS Raju, Business Chairman – Airports, GMR Group.
The Delhi operation adds to GMR’s existing duty-free businesses at Hyderabad, Goa, and Kannur airports. “Delhi Duty Free becoming part of GMR Airport’s Adjacency businesses marks a defining moment in our journey,” noted Rajesh Arora, President & CEO – Commercial & Growth, GMR Airports Ltd. (GAL). Rajesh added, “This makes us South Asia’s largest duty-free operator and reinforces our commitment to elevating airport retail.”
Ashish Chopra, CEO – Group Duty Free Business, said the integration will accelerate a shift “from traditional retail to dynamic travel commerce, blending global excellence with local charm.”
GMR confirmed that Delhi Duty Free will retain its branding while benefitting from GMR Aero’s digital transformation initiatives and expanded product mix, ensuring international travelers enjoy a seamless and enhanced shopping experience.
