Gurugram vends selling liquor on discount

As Haryana prepares to implement its new excise policy within the next fortnight, liquor shops and BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle) venues across Gurugram have begun slashing prices, offering alcohol at rates below the government-fixed Minimum Retail Price (MRP).

The move is being seen as an attempt by vendors to liquidate existing stock before the current excise year ends on June 12. The Excise and Taxation Department has launched a probe following multiple complaints from market insiders and license holders.

However,  discounting alcohol below the MRP is not permitted under state rules and results in revenue loss to the exchequer.
