Haryana’s excise and taxation department has reported a significant 13.25 percent increase in revenue this fiscal, with collections touching ₹14,342 crore. This growth is primarily attributed to the successful auction of all 1,194 excise zones and the issuance of 2,388 retail liquor shop licences, the highest ever recorded in the state.

The auction, completed well ahead of schedule this year, more than doubled last year’s revenue of ₹7,025 crore. Each excise zone was permitted two retail shops, accounting for 2,388 licences issued. Gurugram topped the list of contributors with ₹3,875 crore, making up 27 percent of the total excise revenue. Rural districts also saw notable growth under the excise policy.

The auction process benefitted from enhanced law enforcement measures, which reportedly helped boost investor confidence.
