House of Hazelwood plans 100 YO grain whisky
House of Hazelwood, the whisky label from the Gordon family, owners of William Grant & Sons, has unveiled an ambitious new series that will culminate in the world’s first 100 year old single grain whisky.
The collection debuts with a 60-year-old single grain whisky from the Girvan Distillery, which is marking its 60th anniversary this year. The whiskies used in the series originate from casks laid down in 1964 by Charles Gordon, the distillery’s founding year. Titled One For The Next, the series will feature five releases—each launched every decade until 2065—with expressions aged 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 years.
The first release, One For The Next Chapter One 60-Year-old, is a blend of whiskies distilled in 1964. It features flavour notes of currants, candied fruits, toasted almonds, citrus, and green Granny Smith apples. Only 25 bottles of this inaugural edition are available. The remaining whisky from this vintage will continue to mature in specially commissioned European oak hogsheads designed to support ultra-long ageing. These casks were initiated by Kirsten Grant Meikle, niece of Charles Gordon, to preserve the whisky for future generations.
Priced at US$13,300, the 60-year-old whisky is available exclusively through House of Hazelwood and William Grant & Sons Distillers Libraries.
