The long-anticipated India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is poised to reshape the alcobev landscape, particularly benefiting the premium whisky segment. With a landmark reduction in import duties on Scotch whiskies, the agreement opens new doors for global brands seeking deeper penetration in one of the world’s fastest-growing liquor markets.

Industry stakeholders are optimistic about the broader implications of the deal. Among them, Mokksh Sani, an influential figure in India’s premium spirits ecosystem, sees the FTA as a turning point for both local and global players.

“The India-UK FTA marks a pivotal moment for India's premium spirits market. Reduced import duties on Indian and Scotch whiskies will unlock new opportunities, enabling us to curate diverse selections that showcase local craft distilleries and renowned international brands. This development promises to enrich the consumer experience, fostering a vibrant drinking culture that celebrates choice, discovery, and appreciation for fine whiskies,” said Mokksh.

As the founder of Mansionz by Living Liquidz, India’s first experiential liquor destination, Mokksh has consistently championed innovation in retail and brand storytelling within the alcobev sector. His ventures, such as The Glenwalk, in collaboration with actor Sanjay Dutt, and Glenjourneys, with Ajay Devgn, have further cemented his role as a curator of premium whisky experiences in India.

The FTA is expected to benefit not just Scotch whisky exports but also Indian whisky producers, who may find reciprocal access to UK markets. With consumer demand steadily shifting toward premiumisation and connoisseurship, industry leaders are calling this moment a catalyst for cultural and economic transformation in how India consumes and celebrates spirits.
