Kerala approves KAU’s Nila Wines

Kerala’s Excise Department has approved Kerala Agricultural University’s (KAU) Nila Wine brand, initially clearing three variants: Nila Cashew Apple Wine, Nila Pineapple Wine and Nila Banana Wine.

Cashew Apple Wine, made from tropical humid climate fruits, has 14.5 percent alcohol content and features a tart, astringent flavour. The Nila Banana Wine is crafted from Kerala’s indigenous Palayamkodan banana variety, known for its soft texture and slightly acidic, aromatic flavour, and the Pineapple Wine is derived from the Mauritius variety of the fruit which has been recently granted a GI tag. Both these variants have 12.5 percent alcohol content.

As per regulations, sales will be restricted to the State Beverages Corporation (Bevco), with availability initially limited to selected outlets. The 750 ml bottles are expected to be priced under ₹1,000.
